May 5th 2011

On the 5th of May the people of Eccellsall have a choice. A chance to send a message to the LibDems of Sheffield that they are not wanted and not trusted to run this great city. You can send a message to Nick Clegg and his party that their support for the Tory cuts and the destruction of the welfare state will not be tolerated.
Labours candidate for Ecclesall Neale Gibson-Abo-Anber was born in Belfast but has lived in Sheffield for the last 20 years; he runs an accounting business based on Ecclesall Road. He is an active member of the Sheffield business community and most of his clients are small local enterprises. He has just moved onto Blair Athol Road.
‘I want the people of Ecclesall to choose a representative and party who understand people are feeling the pain of the Tory cuts pushed through with Liberal Democrat support.  I will stand up for voters who feel betrayed by Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats breaking their promises made at the last election. The current council is acting as a door mat for a Tory Prime Minister who is  intent on deep and damaging cuts which will cause long term damage to jobs, education and public services in Ecclesall.’
Neale Gibson-Abo-Anber has been active in the Ecclesall area on several different area of concern to local residents:
The cut in the winter fuel allowance and reduction to the adult care system in Sheffield.  Labour will reverse the Liberal Democrat cuts to Adult care in Sheffield. ‘I believe that the people of Ecclesall should receive the help and support they need to remain independent we grow older. The cut in the payment of the winter heating allowance will hit people in Sheffield particularly hard.’
The withdrawal of EMA and the charging of £9000 a year to send our children to University. Labour has been active in Ecclesall working with young people and students to fight against this policy that will hit many middle income families in this area. ‘Nick Clegg has betrayed Ecclesall voters, taking away EMA and the increase in University fees is going to be a major obstacle to many young people entering further education’
The Greystones bus service. Since the change in the bus timetable people who rely on the 81 bus have found the service inadequate. Many residents have expressed their anger at the routing of buses; I am working with local people and the bus company in effort to improve the current frequency of buses on this route.’
The speed of traffic on Greystones Road. Labour has been working with local people to petition for a 20 mph speed limit to be imposed on this road. In addition Labour has been consulting residents in the streets closest to Ecclesall Road over the imposition of a resident’s only parking scheme. Neale said ‘I am a local resident and frequently walk along this road on the way to Endcliffe Park and I am horrified at the speed of traffic ’
Neale Gibson-Abo-Anber and Labour make the following promises to the people of Eccellsall:
·          Labour will do their upmost to protect Sheffield particularly it’s most vulnerable citizens and wherever possible protect front line services.
·         Labour will work to ensure that the funding put in place by the previous Labour government and that this current LibDem Council have failed to obtain to repair Sheffield’s roads is finally received by the City.
·         Labour will prioritise education for Sheffield’s young people by restoring the LibDem cuts to study support services for children at a cost of £131k. They will also restore the cuts made to Activity Sheffield.
·         Labour promises to support Sheffield’s proud tradition of opposition to racism, bigotry and prejudice.
·         Neale will use his 30 years of business experience to monitor the efficiency and value for money of outsourced Council services and to examine all the current contracts to look for financial savings.
